Preferences

In the Preferences, you can change the look and the behaviour of Ulysses. They are divided into the parts Application, Project, Text Editing, Counting and Interface. The subsections of these parts offer quite a lot of adjustable parameters, so you can modify it as you like and suite it exactly to your needs.
The most important thing under Application is the AutoUpdate feature which allows you to keep Ulysses up to date without checking our website manually. You can also change the behaviour when starting up Ulysses and when closing a project. For instance, you can make Ulysses open up the previous project when closing the current project.
The Project preferences let you ease your work some more. Besides the normal project style, you can also use the Mini Project style, which hides the Browser, the Filters and so on and only displays your documents. This is just perfect for small projects where you don't want to use features like Filters or Groups.
In this section you can also set Ulysses to save your work all the time while you type and choose how and when Ulysses should create Backups.
Text Editing gives you lists of predefined Tags and Markers to which you can add your own. Under Misc you can enable spell checking.
"Typewriter Scrolling" makes the currently active line stay in the vertical middle of the editor window. You can disable it for individual documents by Ctrl-clicking in the editor window and clicking "Typewriter Scrolling" in the Activate item.
Counting lets you change the behavior of Ulysses’ counting feature.
In the Interface preferences you can change the look of almost everything in Ulysses as you want or choose from a variety of themes. You can change the appearance of every mode separately. Most of the view and edit modes have their own settings since they differ in the interface and the use, but two settings are common to all modes: the style and the marker settings. You can still set these settings individually for every mode. However, if you want to synchronize the style and marker settings between the modes, you can just use the option "Copy all style settings from" so you don't have to enter these settings twice.
- Can I turn this annoying splash screen off?
- Yes. Go to Preferences > Application > Startup, disable the option "Hide application startup screen" and hit the "Save" button.
