Plain Text Exporter
In this section, specific settings for the Plain Text Exporter will be covered. It converts Ulysses documents to plain text files with the extension ".txt". The following settings adjust the export.
In the section "Text setup", various adjustments to the exported documents can be made.
Encoding
For Plain Text Export, the documents can be exported using a Unicode encoding (either UTF-8 or UTF-16), a UNIX encoding (ISO-Latin-1), a Macintosh encoding (Macintosh Roman) or a Windows encoding (Win-Latin-1).
Insertion of Meta Information
Every document includes the meta information "Title", "Status", "Tag" and "Timestamp". These information can be added at the beginning of an exported document.
Hard Breaks
The word wrap of exported documents can be changed to restrict the number of characters in a line according to the standard page preferences. If hard breaks are used, the exporter can also number non-empty lines. Page numbers can be added as well, also according to the standard page preferences.
Delete empty lines
This option removes every empty line from the exported documents.
Paragraph, Inline and Marker styles
Each of those settings has a table, in which actions can be assigned to the used tags and markers.
There are three actions for every paragraph and inline style available: "Delete Tags", "Delete Paragraphs" and "Don't touch". If "Delete Tags" is selected, the tags are removed from the exported documents and therefore will not distract while reading the exported documents. The option "Delete Paragraphs" removes the paragraphs inside the tags. The last option, "Don't touch", retains both the tags and the text.
The same actions exist for handling marker styles, except for "Delete Tags", since tags are not available for markers. Instead, characters can be inserted at the start and the end of the selected text using the action "Enclose in". These characters are arbitrary; the start and the end characters of the selection can be different as well. To do so, separate the start and the end characters by " - " (space dash space), e.g. if there should be an "S" at the start of a label and an "E" at the end, "S - E" should be used.
Printing (not available for Ulysses Core)
Aside from exporting documents, the Plain Text Exporter can also print them directly using the settings in the bottom section. The paper format, the margins as well as the font can be adjusted. If the option "Hard Breaks according to standard page preferences" is selected, the exporter checks if the paper format, the margins and the used font can be preserved. If not, a warning will be displayed and the settings can be readjusted.
